Band: Automata

Releases: Microcosm EP (free download)

Myspace

YouTube

Automata’s sound is like a lucid dream: there’s a subtle familiarity in it that lures you into something altogether otherworldly. Blending dub, soul, pop, blues and rock with break beat, electronic, ambient and classical music, the Chicago-formed quartet seamlessly shifts through an endless spectrum of organic and mechanical textures. One is likely to find themselves meandering through a spaghetti western one moment, a Kingston dance hall the next. Truly an act to be seen as well as heard, Automata pairs their tracks with psychedelic video work for their live performances.

In July of 2009, only two months after solidifying their lineup, Automata made their way into I.V. Lab Studio to record Microcosm with engineer Jay Marino. In five tracks, their self-produced debut EP shows off the group’s ability to incorporate a myriad of styles in their music while still having a defined, cohesive sound. As the title suggest, Microcosm is a complete representation alluding to something much larger and extensive. With a rapidly expanding catalogue of songs, Automata plans to record their first LP in 2010.

I don't have much against posters who don't have many posts and seem to have come to mt for no other reason than to drop off their own music and are no doubt doing this across multiple band-based boards, but the entire presentation of this post being so official and completely devoid of information of who started this mellowtron account reeks of shameless corporate-esque band promoting.

in other words: c'mon, at least tell us who you are. do you manage this band? do you play in it? think you'll stick around a bit, at least talk some more about this band's music if our ya community digs it, and at most listen to some of the other musicians here?

I'm listening to 'give and take' off the myspace right now and it's extremely polished. it hasn't quite hooked me in any way, and I think it's just the combination of alicia keys type singing coupled with guitar pedal rock that throws me off.

edit - and I looked at your posts just now and yr perfectly honest about wanting feedback and not wanting to give out any feedback yrself, so that's fine. good that you at least make no pretense about it. but I am still curious as to what yr role in the band is.

Inactive (Mr. Modified Bear)

electronica / alternative rock / glitchpop / shoegaze

http://inactivemaze.weebly.com/

Songs to be Heard While Driving in the Rain EP (2010)

Inspired by My Bloody Valentine, Them Crooked Vultures, Radiohead, and Aphex Twin, "Inactive" is essentially one big experiment. We've been working on material for a while now, but as it'll be a while before we release our first full album, I've decided to start releasing a bunch of our instrumental b-sides in little EPs (one of which is linked to above). I'm the singer (when we do songs that actually have vocals, that is) as well as the one who creates all the odd noises and electronic sounds that float around through our songs.

alright, got you added. I have no idea what's going on with the directory format. yesterday the first half of it, most of the entires were mostly right. but now it looks like the only coding that seems to have survived in all cases are the download links. which are the most important, so that's good.

anyway, listening to this. interesting, hypnotic. but I'd be more interested in the vocal stuff, I think. this is promising.

collection of the first whitewash songs. no one probably remembers, but the songs from the BOTB '08, maybe even '07, (I don't even remember) are on this album. not sure what genre, some tracks are ambient and some are "wall of sound" electronic postrock or something. its better than what it sounds like. i trapped a ton of my youthful optimism in these tracks. even if you don't listen to the whole album, the songs, feather, untitled 13, and grassy are really fuckin cool.
