my take on this would be a mix up in word usage...


for example, The Beatles said "we're recording a new album" and they had just started recording some songs from Sgt. Pepper, but most of the songs had yet to be written, so they were still writing.


Another example(s), my band is in the middle of recording an EP, 3 songs are recorded but we still lack 4 more songs that need to be recorded for a 7 song EP and only one of the four has been written.

the other singer in the band recorded his solo album over a year, because he'd write a song, go in the studio record it, write for a few more months, go in the studio and record a song, etc etc till his album was finished.

Most big bands have all the time in the world and they can be "in the studio/recording" but actually be writing in the studio not even recording, just writing/rehearsing. So it's possible it's a mix up in word usage. I dont think Ed would say they were "recording" if they weren't, and Phil might have just re-iterated, that just cause they are recording doesn't mean they are done writing.

But ya, that's what I get from it.

It's more likely that Ed asked when he gets to record his parts and they told him it was already finished. Wouldn’t be surprised if he took to the stage with a guitar-hero guitar for the next tour to give him that authentic feeling of playing with the band.
