warrenmusic 13
Anyone know what kind of effect or effects Ed is using to get that swelling sound on the live version of Videotape? He strums that C#m with his thumb and it just becomes this crazy ambient wash...
boman 12
this probably isn't right, but i kinda imitated it once. i just used a digitech whammy and set it to the higher octave + delay. to make the swelling sound i used a wah. i hope that made sense

catone.c 10
He's using an envelope generator pedal, let's him control the attack and decay so that it's more of a swell than a strum. This combined with his volume pedal and an E-bow (sometimes).

kafka. 105
it's quite a beautiful effect, especially when it bursts into the upper octave
shadow link 10
To bad they didn't do that on the album. Yeah i love the sound that it makes, it is disconcerting when you see something like that then hear the sound that comes out and try and connect the two. Like a lot of the stuff jonny does. warrenmusic 13
So I take it no one knows which particular effect it is... the envelope part to me seems obvious, but I was wondering more like... is it a Moog MuRF, or whatever specific pedal/effect?
