Green Plastic says that you can ask any radiohead fan what they think the lyrics mean and they'll give you a different answer and that there's great debate about the meaning. I'm guessing this means that at somepoint in the past there was a giant heated discussion on an MT thread, so let's recreate this and offer our own oppinions and then tell other people that their oppinions are stupid.

Personally i think it's about a fire in a dog kennel

i just thought it was about a girl from the third world who likes white boys...

Ain't it Pearly*?

I always thought it was about some teenage Thai prostitutes (and their pathetic clients...)

Quite a song, really.

lol why Thai?

I just remember being in Thailand once (with my wife, for an academic conference!) and there were all these trying-to-look-happy-and-sexy girls being swarmed by older white men with guts.

And it was near a mall...

It could be anywhere I suppose, but it just seemed "Asian" to me. Who knows what Thom was thinking...

I just came to the same conclusion independently. And that Thom has a delectably filthy mind.

I heard that it was about an encounter Thom had with some asian girls on tour in the nineties. They told him they follow them wherever the band goes on tour, Thom asked how they afford it. They took johns...

guys i'm pretty sure the * after the song title is meant to represent the flash of clean teeth like in the old, cheesy television commercials for toothpaste.

and with that i think the song is about all of the ass-to-mouth porn ever recorded that never made it to a video release.

I'm not sure I understand the expression 'take johns' ('john' is an American slang for a customer of a hooker, at least that's what my dictionary's telling me), so I guess it means what I think it means (and Pearly is about).

Anyway, it's interesting. Do you perhaps have a source? I've never found any reference like that when looking up Pearly, so I'm curious.

Quite a sad story, but then again I can't be that surprised people are willing to go to great lengths to see Radiohead... I just hope their reward made up for the effort/sacrifice.

Yeah, I'm an American and that's exactly what I meant. I thought I read that meaning on Greenplastic lyrics, but I just looked and I must have got it from somewhere else. Wherever it was, I think that came from Thom himself in an old interview or something, I might need help with this(Penny???) Pretty much, out of all the ridiculous meanings I've heard, this one seemed to have stuck...
