Artist Statement

I am interested in exploring the concept of the post-modern self. Our contemporary existence is contorted by subjectivity portrayed by the media within the hyper-reality habitats we subsist within. We have an incessant degree of choice for pursuit and knowledge and find our selves in a multiplicity of everyday scenarios tailoring our desires, stance, sensation and qualities to fit these current circumstances, however they may be directed to us. Individuality is becoming ever more of a phenomenon and our world has become increasingly Orwellian.

In the grasp of an identity crisis, I looked to the exploration of semiotics and written word to describe how I feel and to try and come to an understanding of the world around me.

By shedding the constraints of what I felt I should aspire to as an artist, I let myself go, finding favour in instinct and found that progressively more people connected to my importunate expressive persona and observance.

I have created a self-reflection that is variable and multifaceted. By creating two dimensional work or finished pieces I can remove my physical self and let the myth of the work create an impression.

I have also taken to using a more physical approach for some concepts within my practice through the use of performance, as sometimes I wish to use my body as an art vehicle, often relying on the spontaneity of improvising and the cerebral and cathartic rewards I can obtain when directly experiencing what it is to be analysed physically within an art context.

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys. It's always nice when people appreciate what you do.

Regarding exhibitions Harry, it would be cool if you could check out the Phoenix Exhibition later in the summer, I presume you still live in Plymouth? It's not too far away. Are you still drawing?

Also there's plans for a solo show in London during the winter, which I'm really stoked about.

Because they like my work. I've done quite a lot since leaving university and have built up quite a cv for a BA graduate, more so than your average MA student. The exhibition at the Cube is a solo show, but it's not strictly a gallery. Will be awesome to put on a really good show at the London gallery though and have quite a long time to work towards it.

You shouldn't give up on making art because of the academics, if you enjoy it that is. Have a look at live art love art, we are after people who aren't strictly speaking artists to improve their lives through making art and trying to make opportunities available for them. Would be great if you want to sign up to it. I might actually make a thread aboput it to explain it better and try and get MTers involved.
