i'm often guilty of getting derp about taking big hits out of the game. my dad still expects the raiders to draft convicts to shank and smash their way to a ring.

lot of emotion over here.

"The average American lives to be 75. The average pro football player lives to be 55."

It might be 20 years but I'd bet good money that football as we know it is on its way out

there's some evidence disputing this:

"Out of the 3,439 players in the study, 334 were deceased. Based on estimates from the general population, NIOSH had anticipated 625 would be deceased."

yeah i've heard conflicting things, but i mean the evidence is well, pretty evident. fact is parents aren't going to continue letting their kids play it at the rate we saw in the past. i guess maybe it well help soccer grow at least.

the healthiest way to think about it is if we ban this, imagine what bloodsport we concoct next!

look i love football overall as a game in that each play is like a chess match and requires a lot of coordination and it's kind of beautiful when executed properly and novelly, but i was never a fan of huge hits for their own sake. the question we need to ask, disregarding moral language, is whether it's even legal for someone to just like disclaim protections to their health for some measure of compensation. i don't know! should participants in a contract be told the full effects of what the contract could entail? i'm not sure, but i'm guessing that players who go into nfl contracts today aren't given a full picture of what their physical quality of life might be and are quite possibly being misled. i'm a believer that sport is the best alternative to war for channeling human aggression but aspects of football and pretty much the entirety of boxing produce a kind of revulsion in me.

i used to be a big jags fan but now i'm starting to hate 'em cept for MJD and a couple other players. the defensive tradition just ain't the same, the front office fucking sucks shit, and mularkey's a great specialist but a subpar coach. 5-11 here they come

Not an elite wr, it was a deep wr draft, and he had a previous off the field issues. Throughout the draft process I thought the Jags would have no interest in him, then to my surprise they trade up for him. Hated the pick at the time. Hopefully the dude gets help.

i really dont understand how he's not an elite wr prospect. he's one of only two players to win the biletnikoff twice, despite being the one guy on the field that every team gameplanned around. he's a freak. he may be a clown off the field, but he's a monster on it.

it's some really weird fashionable thing i heard going around right before the draft. like for two or three years people splooged over this kid. then right before the draft there was a bunch of bah humbug that people seemed to latch on to. but i mean turn on the fucking tape, kid is a beast.

also, reports are that kendall wright is looking like a grown fucking man in OTAs

I just don't see him being an elite wr. He does seem like a safe pick to be really good, assuming the off the field shit clears up. He beat up soft coverage, struggled with press coverage, and isn't really a win over the top guy like Kendall Wright. Taking a wr top 5, I'd want him to be a Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Green, Julio Jones... and I just don't think that is Blackmon. :icon_redf

Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson are physical freaks in a pass happy league. If Blackmon's qb play ends up being on par with Jones and Green (huge IF) then I'd anticipate that he will be just as productive as those guys.

blackmon's gonna be a fucking beast. jags are gonna pay him less money now, right? so he's gotta prove himself on the field. when you have an athlete like that playing to prove himself, it's a beautiful thing.
