First Impressions thread

i'm a fan from the early days, and i just had to register and post because this band never ceases to amaze me. I've been playing "The King of Limbs" pretty much non-stop since it hit, and each time it gets better. Like all of their albums it requires repeated listens to sink in. It's an amazing record, perfectly balanced, tight and encompassing a complete work. Incredibly beautiful and mature, as imaginative as anything they've done.

I'm going to be listening to this album for a very long time to come.

First impressions were a little bewildered. It was only on Codex that I got the 'Holy shit new Radiohead' feeling. It's undoubtedly the strongest track but where I was uncertain at first I'm sold now. I love the horns on Codex and Give Up The Ghost, the latter I was pretty worried would get destroyed in the studio and didn't. The only thing is that the way the album is balanced seems a bit odd, 5 electronic tracks and then 3 not-so-electronic tracks, but I guess that's the album rocking you gently to sleep I guess, by the end of the album you've forgotten how tense the first half was. I also like the fact that the album has an 'Amnesiac bsides' vibe to it, especially on tracks like Feral. The production throughout the album is absolutely stunning, Godrich did a really great job here, the understated nature of this and In Rainbows suits Radiohead even better than Thom's bowler hat does. So yeah, it's a grower not a show-er and it's nice to see them doing something a little more Kid Amnesiac again. Not sure I rank it as high as my favourite Radiohead albums but I guess time will tell. Best track: Codex. Worst track: Morning Mr. Magpie (the original was never that great anyway).

Believe or not, I just spent half an hour searching for waterproof earplugs on the internet... there's several brands. This is happening, folks.

Oh man, if you come up with something good, do let me know. I've been looking into this (on and off) for a few months now and I am yet to find an mp3 player that is fully waterproof and has good reviews as well. There are like 2-3 different ones and all of them have rather discouraging reviews on amazon.

I'm afraid I'm arriving to the same conclusion...
