  1. finally got a chance to sit and listen to this record all the way through, it's the best record of the year so far! (idk why cab didnt make this thread already). it's definitely a left-turn for the band, a little more musically relaxed and less 'punk'. in fact, the reference points that spring to mind for me are like The National and British Sea Power and lots of those mid-00s indie bands doing a sorta poppy take on post-punk with heavy/sharp rhythms and reverby guitars. i suppose this is actually the current 'default sound' of 'indie rock' thanks to all those bands, but no one doing it now is even writing remotely good songs if you ask me!... UNTIL NOW! Protomartyr is doing the BEST possible version of that sound and it's GOOD as HELL. killer songwriting, killer production, tight performances. NML http://www44.zippyshare.com/v/52067566/file.html just buy it tho.

  8. all the other forums are getting fresh ALL-TIME lists, i figure it's high time that Current Events gets one! so post a list of your top USA National Embarrassments! all types of embarrassments (political, economic, social, etc) are welcome. they can be from any time in american history. they can be as abstract or concrete as you like! the only rule is NO CONSPIRACY THEORIES! unless the embarrassment is the conspiracy theory itself, of course... lists must include AT LEAST 15 Embarrassments, up to 50! also, with each embarrassment, please post a source so other people can look them up. deadline is the end of august.

    scott deada

scottdeada.bandcamp.com/ you guys should listen to Scott Deada music. guitar / synth / drum machine pop home recorded music w/ more hooks than you can handle and good, insightful lyrics. to me it's like some kind of platonic ideal of DIY pop music. Palindrome Pop and Sexist Aesthetics are the best. full disclosure Scott is a friend of mine and former bandmate in the Enchantments but i have no hand in any of this music, but that's why i'm using anonym.to, bandcamp tracks where links come from and i don't want him to find this thread!
